Over the past few days I have been thinking about how I can spread out my blogging and book writing so that I can do both. The plan for this year was to publish a book every month. That means publishing twelve books. I think that is still achievable at the rate at which I am moving. I have been writing at least three thousand words every single day for the past seven days. It means I can publish two books a month to catch up on the Months I have not published. However, I have had to reduce blogging on my website to just once a week, every Friday. This is okay because I also blog on Medium and LinkedIn on Saturdays.
I think it’s important to write books and share ideas and experiences. Storytelling is natural to us as humans because our brains are story processing machines. We love stories and that’s why we write articles and books. To that effect, I use the WordPress platform to write stories like this one. I also use Medium and LinkedIn for blogging. As I have already said, on Fridays I blog on the WordPress platform and on Saturdays I do that on Medium and LinkedIn. These are the major blogging platforms where I write at least one thousand words for WordPress and Medium and at least five hundred words for LinkedIn. LinkedIn does not allow up to one thousand words. The LinkedIn article is based on the work I’m doing with www.teachable.com. It’s a platform where I’m producing physics courses from Monday to Friday. I’m a physics teacher by profession and I want to share my experiences with fellow teachers and those willing to produce and sell courses of any subject or skills set. LinkedIn is a more professional platform hence my decision to blog about the physics course.
On Medium, I can write about the other things I do besides preparing physics courses. I think that telling stories about the things that I am doing will help others to realize that they can do the same. I talk about all the social media strategies that I am deploying to build a brand and market my products and services. You can not call yourself an entrepreneur if you do not have a product or a service that you are selling. You can not generate any revenue if you can’t sell. You can advertise but advertising may cost you money that you do not have, or you can use free social media platforms to market your products and services. The way to do this is to talk about what you do so that you become an authority in that field. If you become an authority, it means that people are likely to buy your products and services because they trust your expertise in your field. It means that you have to produce a lot of free content on social media platforms on a daily basis. If people don’t know what you do, they’re more skeptical about your products and services.
If you’re a photographer, people are more likely to trust your recommendations on what camera to use for a certain occasion than they would a car mechanic. You may be wondering how a mechanic can use social media platforms? If the mechanic starts a YouTube channel in which they talk about how to fix the common problems that motorists have, motorists are more likely to consult with that mechanic because they view him as an authority in that field. I once offered a computer repair service in Zimbabwe with a friend. I ran an advert in The Chronicle offering free telephone advice on computer issues. We secured business deals from some of the people who were calling us with computer issues. Although we offered free advice, they trusted us to go and fix the computers because we knew what we were talking about. That’s why it’s important to use social media platforms to create content in your area of expertise whilst also creating products and services that you can sell.
On WordPress, I can talk about experiences as a writer of books to be published monthly this year 2017 and yearly from 2018. This year I want to perfect the habit of writing. Once I am fully conditioned to write, I will release yearly books of at least five hundred thousand words. I will self publish all of my books on the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform by Amazon. I have already published a book this year and another one two years ago, but I’m on course to write 11 more books by December 2017. It’s going to be tough but I know it can be done.
Processing stories is also the reason why we like looking at pictures. Pictures tell a story. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. The main platform for pictures right now is Instagram. There’s a lot of engagement on Instagram and it integrates well with my Facebook page. I can share my Instagram pictures to my Facebook page. I then share the same pictures in Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Facebook stories. Anyone who is following me on the different platforms will find that I’m consistent across every platform.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million words. There’s a story to tell using video. YouTube is the platform of choice for video. YouTube is also the second biggest search engine after Google itself.
Making videos should just become a daily task if you want to build as much authority as possible in your area of expertise. As a private physics tutor, I can talk about the challenges students face in accessing physics concepts and what they can do to get better grades. It becomes easier for me to sell my physics courses on www.teachable.com because I have become a trusted source. I should not be afraid to provide enough advice that will Make the student realize that they no longer need the course because I have helped them enough. I have to understand that I have gained a brand ambassador who is more likely to refer me to other students who may be struggling. You have to make videos everyday which are relevant to your area of expertise and the products and services that you want to sell. Remember if you don’t talk about your products and services, people won’t know that you have them, if you have a product or a service you have to sell it or you won’t make any money.
One form of storytelling I have not mentioned is audio. We love to talk and listen. Anchor.fm is the perfect platform for telling stories through audio. We learn to talk before we can even read or write so talking comes naturally to us. I use podcasting to talk about my products and services.
